The market for beauty and personal care products is expected to reach at least $130 billion in the United States by 2028. Consumers spend nearly $3,000 each per year on beauty and personal care items, regardless of age or gender.
With a renewed focus on health and wellness, including the prioritization of mental health, personal care has risen in importance. Couple that with the ever-widening embrace of beauty products as a tool for personal expression and the market is ripe for even bigger growth.
Knowing that beauty and personal care brands speak to everyone in a unique way, our team from The Barcode Group scouted the Cosmoprof beauty event in Las Vegas for the trends and glow ups you’ll see online and on retail shelves through the end of 2024 and early 2025.
Here’s what we discovered:
Want to know what you’ll be seeing on store shelves and online through the end of 2024 and early 2025?
Moisturizing sheet masks have been around for a while, but get ready to amp up your skin hydration with color- and translucency-changing hydrogel facial masks. The color and opacity change as skin becomes nourished.
Say hello to Korean beauty and wellness products because you’ll be seeing a lot of them. From age-specific, salon-quality haircare innovations to everything you need to create a spa experience in your own home, Korean brands are always on the leading edge. Nicotinamide riboside (NR), for example, is a form of vitamin B3 that may increase the body’s production of collagen, aiding skin elasticity – look for NR in skincare formulations coming soon!
Smaller, up and coming brands had a bigger presence at the show versus large and more established household names. Brands like the detangling Unbrush had an exciting presence, for example. Beauty and personal care brands have a unique opportunity to catch consumers’ attention on social media and take off. Many beauty brands have gone viral and their sales take them far beyond the label of “cult favorites.”
Fragrance is a constant, but, as a category, it has been a rocket ship in the past few years. Given the trend, Cosmoprof was a flurry of scents. From fresh and simple to exotic and natural, innovative fragrance trends were well-represented. In addition to traditional fragrance products, elevated scents in hair and skincare will be front and center.
Think pink is over? Think again. Like “Barbie summer” all over again, pink packaging and displays were everywhere. Bright, neon and candy-colored packaging dominated across categories and the trend looks like it will carry forward for quite some time.
The hottest trends in nails encourage people to skip the salon and focus on self-manicures with style. Highly stylized press-on nails, do-it-yourself gel and dip products and bright colors will be on everyone’s fingertips this fall and spring.
Look for prestige haircare at mass and value price points. There is a clear shift to making premium haircare more affordable with bond-building, premium styling and better packaging.
The ingredients that make up skincare are about to have their moments in the spotlight. A focus on ingredient stories – sourcing, production, origin – are what make products standout.
Bold, bright, intense colors that pop, lush, essential fragrances, nails for days – all coupled with compelling narratives of the elements that compose them all. You’ll see this reflected in beauty and personal care products in the coming months.
