TREND ALERT: Insights from the ABC Kids Expo 2024

By Michelle Lindsholm, vice president of business development, The Barcode Group

Around the world, 140 million babies are born every year. It’s no wonder the baby and child industry is a multi-billion-dollar market that continues to grow every year. From baby basics to elementary extras, parents are always looking for innovations to make their lives more convenient while enhancing childhood for their kids.

A team from The Barcode Group explored the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada to discover the latest trends in baby and child products from hundreds of brands.

Of course, everything was adorable! So, get ready to coo and squeal because you’ll see these trends online and in stores for the next year:

High tech tots

Smart technology is not limited to grown-ups. Look for monitors and sleep products utilizing Open AI to detect and interpret baby’s cries, monitor breathing and temperature, recording sleep cycles and more.

Next level safety

It’s wild to think that seat belts weren’t even required for children in the U.S. until the 80s, especially when you look at the cutting-edge safety features available in children’s products now. The babyark car seat, for example, uses safety technologies created for the military to enhance the safety of their car seats for babies and children. Add to that an app that guides and confirms proper installation, location notifications, forgotten child alert and more and you’ve got a seat that might just be safer (and smarter) than the car itself.

Fed is best

Understanding that babies need nourishment, regardless of whether they are bottle or breast fed, innovative brands are ensuring it’s easier than ever to make sure baby is getting just what they need. The nfant company offers smart bottles and prototype breast sensors to track feeding information, help parents understand feeding cues and even customize feeding routines. Emulait bottles are size and skin tone customizable, using 3D scanning to ensure bottle feeding is as close to breast feeding as possible.

Terrific throwbacks

Today’s parents have fond memories of their childhood toys, so brands like Wonder and Wise are taking nostalgia up a notch. From Barbie to Furby, everything old is new again!

Luxury for littles

With luxury lines coming on strong, no expense will be spared when it comes to purchasing items for babies and kids. Cybex strollers and travel systems have a Platinum option, babyletto convertible cribs are Greenguard Gold certified and fit into even the most modern décor and Gathre’s mission is to create beautiful products for wear, play and more. And keep an eye out for newness from across the pond as we wait (impatiently) for North American clearances for the Doona travel system – the celebrity favorite.

Heirloom-quality toys, gear and décor are on trend today and decades into the future.

Muted colors

Adios pastels, adieu pops of primary, this year was all about calm and natural shades of terra cotta, earthy green, soft pinks and ocean blues.

From top-of-the-line stroller systems to teeny tiny toys, high tech to all natural, we’re confident you’ll be seeing these baby and child trends popping up everywhere from gender reveal parties to the playground.
