TREND ALERT: Insights from the Inspired Home Show 2024

By Chelsea Stangler, vice president of sales, The Barcode Group

In America, the majority of our time is spent indoors. When we’re at home, a large portion of our days are spent in the kitchen (up to 1,000 hours per year!) or sleeping an average of seven hours per night. And if we’re not working from home, we try to make our office spaces feel as comfortable as possible. That all adds up to thousands of dollars per person spent yearly on household goods and home decor – a $40 billion segment that is expected to continue to grow more than 6 percent every year.
That’s why the Inspired Home Show in Chicago, IL is a can’t-miss event. With thousands of brands featuring everything from kitchen and bath products to outdoor and smart home innovations, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by what’s on offer to make a house a home and take it to the next level.
I was able to check out all the booths with our retail partners and here are the top trends I spotted that you can look forward to seeing more of in 2024:

Peach Fuzz

From bowls to bookends, air fryers to area rugs, everything is blushing in peach this year thanks to Pantone’s color of the year – Peach Fuzz.

Think big, store small

Foldable, stackable, nesting – you name a way to store it and it will catch someone’s eye in 2024. With more stuff and a finite amount of space, people are looking for attractive, effective storage solutions and brands are rising to the challenge. Look for stylized storage solutions in matching colors and patterns that look right at home with other decor.

Kitted out

If you’ve ever started a home improvement project only to have to stop 15 times and purchase additional supplies repeatedly along the journey, this trend is for you. Brands such as Character have cleverly put all the needed supplies together and packaged them by project. Think the Gallery Wall Kit or Faucet Kit.

Specialty kitchen tools

Into sizzling up Brazilian style churrasco (barbecue)? Infusing your own cocktails? Freshly grinding your spices? While some products are generalists, this year it’s all about the specialist. FinaMill, for example, allows home cooks to use one spice mill and swap out different spice pods to save space and eliminate mess.

Silicone

From single-piece silicone kitchen tools (such as those from GIR) to flexible silicone house cleaning products, this bendy material will be ubiquitous in homes in 2024 due, in part, to its heat-resistance and ease of cleaning.

Metallic

After years of warm-toned metals in kitchen, bath and general home goods finishes, the dial is moving back towards cooler-toned metals such as silver and chrome. And don’t be afraid to mix metals!

Big and bold

Home prints, especially wallpaper, are going bigger and bolder in 2024. I saw nods to vintage and retro patterns and colors, brights and darks from floor to ceiling.

Smart homes

From luxury scent diffusers that can be controlled from anywhere in your home to locks and home monitoring systems that can be controlled from anywhere in the world –  we’re going to be able to control most everything about our homes from our phones.

Big, bold, bright, peachy and brilliant. If you want to see your home goods online and on retail shelves in 2024, make sure you’re on trend.
